What Is Colon Hydrotherapy aka Colonic?
Colon Hydrotherapy aka Colonic is an ancient form of cleansing the colon with water. It is a drug-free, safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine (colon). By gently introducing purified, filtered warm water into the colon through a rectal tube about the size of a pencil, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis (muscle contraction). This process is repeated many times during a therapy session. Today’s modern technology promotes both the safety and sanitation of this popular cleansing practice.
Colonic or colon hydrotherapy may offer you an alternative pre-cleanse prior to your colonoscopy but only if your doctor pre-approves.
What Type Of System Do You Use & How Does It Work?
There are two types of systems, the open system and the closed system. We use the open system called the LIBBE.
The LIBBE device open system is considered to be the "Rolls Royce" of colonic treatment devices, providing more privacy, dignity and efficacy while offering you a more relaxing, safe and more comfortable treatment session. This system allows you or your therapist more control of your treatment. One distinct advantage with the LIBBE device is the pencil-thin rectal tube, which clients find extremely comfortable. One of the key factors is that your privacy is protected at all times, since the specially designed bed allows you to easily insert the lubricated thin rectal tube by yourself. Many people find this reassuring and comforting.
The LIBBE is a comfortable form-fitted table with a basin set into it, on which you rest comfortably. Water flows from a tank gravity system set in the cabinet on the wall along side the table. Temperature controlled water flows through a carbon filter, which removes sediment, rust and chlorine, then goes into the water tank. The water is then pumped up into the water column. The water flow from the gravity-fed column is controlled by a flow control knob, which is operated by either the therapist or recipient. The water is purified before it passes through the small rectal tube by an ultra-violet light filter.
Once the water flow is turned on, there is no need to interrupt the cleanse. Your colon will gently take in as much water as it can tolerate. When you feel the need to evacuate, you simply release. Because of the continuous water inflow and release during your treatment, your body's own muscles are used to provide a more natural, gentle release. At the same time, the peristalsis (action of the muscles of the colon) is greatly stimulated and this provides an excellent workout for the colon. Because of the nature of the LIBBE device, the therapist does not need to be there with you all the time. This affords you as much privacy as you may desire.
How Does Colon Hydrotherapy Work To Prepare For A Colonoscopy?
It is well-documented that colonoscopies can help save lives. Therefore, it is important to get your colonoscopies when recommended by your doctor. Prior to the procedure the colon needs to be cleansed of waste in order for the doctor to get a clear view of your colon. There are typically two ways of performing this cleanse: a) Chemical laxatives; b) Colon Hydrotherapy aka Colonics.
Unfortunately, many report that the chemical laxative pre-cleanse is very unpleasant and sometimes painful. Some people experience: cramping, burning at the rectum area, and it can be highly inconvenient as it often requires keeping very close to a bathroom for as long as a full day.
Fortunately, Colon Hydrotherapy may offer a drug-free alternative to the cleanse by using warm filtered water to flush the colon of waste. This allows for little to no cramping, no burning at the rectum, and allows you to go about your normal activities afterwards. Important! Colon Hydrotherapy is not appropriate for everyone, nor for every colonoscopy pre-cleanse procedure, therefore you need talk to your doctor first to obtain their approval prior to each colonoscopy.

What Are The Possible Benefits Of Colonics aka Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon Hydrotherapy is not a cure, but it can be a valuable procedure for a variety of colon conditions. A toxic bowel can be the source of many health problems. A colonic session may help to cleanse and hydrate the colon, exercise the colon muscles, and may help to: release toxins, cleanse the blood, empower the immune system and restore the PH balance in the body, as well as re-hydrate the whole body.
How Do I Know If I Need A Colonic?
If you are suffering from any of the symptoms listed below, Colonic or Colon Hydrotherapy may be valuable for you.* The effects of cleaning out the colon of accumulated waste material may allow the body to function more efficiently. The body may give us signs that all is not well by these “uncomfortable” symptoms...
- Constipation/Diarrhea
- Bad Breath
- Indigestion
- Irritable Bowel
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Abnormal Body Odor
- Coated Tongue
- Abnormal Discomfort
- Insomnia
- Candida Overgrowth
How Many Colonic Treatments Should You Have?
The number of reasons will vary with each individual and their goal for a healthier life. Someone coming in for a regular preventive maintenance would obviously need fewer sessions than someone with gastro-intestinal problem. Following your consultation your Therapist will discuss with you a recommended number of sessions needed for you to obtain your goals.
Is Colonic Embarrassing Or Painful?
Your dignity and privacy is completely maintained at all times in the comfort of our calming and soothing private treatment rooms. During your bowel movement there is no odor with the LIBBE Colonic open system.
In the case of an impacted colon you may experience a slight discomfort. Some cramping may occur as the colon contracts to expel waste. Once the major impaction is removed, you should find the session pleasant and relaxing.
Is This Alternative Therapy Referred To By Different Names?
Just for clarification... You may find this type of alternative therapy referred to by different names, depending on the area of the country you live, and the type of apparatus being employed to effect the colon cleanse.
Colonic irrigation, colon hydrotherapy, high colonic generally involve the use of low-pressure water — created mechanically or by gravity — and administered in the presence of, and with the assistance of, a professionally trained colon therapist. Enema, colon lavage, clysters are generally self-administered and only involve the cleansing and evacuation of the lower sigmoid colon and rectum. Not as thorough a cleanse, but still of some benefit. All refer to different techniques and procedures for cleansing of the large intestine (colon) and sigmoid (lower bowel) of metabolic waste without the use of prescription medications or any other toxic agents.
If you wish to maintain good health for life, you may discover colonics, also called colon hydrotherapy or high colonics, to be greatly beneficial in the prevention, treatment and relief of many common health ailments. Many doctors are now embracing colonic irrigation as an adjunct to their traditional medical treatments, or as part an overall regimen of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) designed to cleanse and detoxify their patient's colon, liver, kidney and lymphatic systems.
